It is time for us to join together and work to bring awareness and change through a letter writing campaign to address deaths in custody, neglect and the need for oversight of our jails and prisons.
Last month we shared the documentary Cruelty Inside: Crisis in Our County Jails and the recent Detroit Free Press story of Ben Blostein and his family’s painful journey.
Barbara and Joel, Ben’s parents have worked tirelessly to bring attention and awareness to the conditions within Michigan’s County Jails, which have led to unnecessary deaths and trauma that will last a lifetime. They are asking us to take action and join them in a letter writing campaign that is driven by Ben’s death in March of 2024 in the Oakland County Jail.
They want change, on behalf of all of those who have lost their lives or suffered unbelievable trauma, to occur statewide.
Join Joel and Barbara, Citizens for Prison Reform, and families across Michigan who have lost loved ones or experienced harm in custody as we take action together.
Add your voice to the call for accountability, independent oversight, and meaningful change in Michigan’s jails and prisons.
