The Carceral State Project’s newest StoryMap by J’Mauri Jackson examines the experiences of incarcerated women with disabilities, with a particular focus on conditions inside Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Michigan.

Through legal context, policy analysis, and firsthand accounts from impacted women, the report documents allegations of medical neglect, inaccessible care, inhumane conditions, and barriers to receiving necessary accommodations and treatment. Most importantly, it centers the voices and lived experiences of women directly impacted by these issues.

These stories are difficult to read, but they raise important questions about healthcare, disability rights, accountability, and conditions of confinement.
