Make a difference with Citizens for Prison Reform

What We Do

Citizens for Prison Reform works alongside families impacted by incarceration to create change inside and outside the prison system.

We support families through direct advocacy and case assistance, while also leading research and policy efforts focused on issues like visitation access, solitary confinement, and prison conditions. Our work combines family support, legislative advocacy, and oversight to ensure lived experiences inform real reform.

Get Involved

Families are at the heart of everything we do. Volunteers help make this work possible by supporting families, strengthening advocacy efforts, and ensuring important information and stories are not lost.

There are many ways to get involved, both in-person and remotely. These are just a few examples of the types of roles and projects volunteers support.

In-Person Opportunities

Especially needed in the Lansing area

We have a strong ongoing need for in person volunteers to support:

  • Mail intake and document scanning
  • Data entry and file organization
  • Delivering materials and flyers to legislators
  • Writing and sending thank you notes
  • Event support, tabling, and community outreach
  • General administrative support

These roles directly support families and keep our frontline advocacy work moving.

Remote/Online Positions

We also offer flexible remote volunteer roles, including:

  • Research and policy analysis
  • Legislative tracking and education
  • Writing, summarizing, and communications support
  • CRM and data management
  • Advocacy letter writing
  • Storytelling, content creation, and social media support for those with strong creative skills

Whether you prefer hands-on community work or behind the scenes research, organizing, or storytelling, there is a meaningful role for you at CPR.
